Job Summary

The Maintenance Manager oversees preventative maintenance and damage repairs to fleet and equipment.

Primary Objectives

• Manage maintenance and repair programs, initiatives, and practices with a focus on safety and contributing to the organization’s EBITA goals.

• Ensure fleet and equipment are fully capable of meeting customer requirements and business demands.

• Review and monitor repair work to ensure work is performed to the highest standard possible.

• Manage and direct the work of maintenance and repair staff including collectively bargained employees.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Control and monitor execution of activities connected with maintenance, repairs, surveys, and certificate requirements.

• Ensure clearance of repairs, reported deficiencies, damages, and non-conformities to the fleet.

• Responsible for assessing and direction of repairing damages to support operational needs and prevent production down time.

• Inspect equipment as often as necessary and report on general machinery conditions, repairs, maintenance, safety, and environmental protection and any required actions.

• Perform pricing, ordering, and inventory maintenance.

• Liaison between Operations and Terminal to anticipate equipment requirements for Vessel and Terminal operations

• Oversee the coordination for certifications of equipment as required by OSHA.

• Responsible for fleet renewal and Capital Expenditure (CapEx) planning for all vehicles and equipment.

• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Operations, Business, or a related field preferred

Required Licenses and Certifications

• Transportation Worker Identity Credential (TWIC) required

• Valid state-issued driver license and acceptable driving record required

Required Work Experience

• 5+ years’ experience in a related Equipment Maintenance position in the transportation, logistics, or similar industry

• Experience working with unions and contract negotiations

Preferred Work Experience

• Experience with CDL, FMCSA, Pre-Trip/Post Trip Inspection, Random Drug Screen & Annual Process, DMV and DOT process for chassis and powered vehicles along with citation and district court process preferred

• Experience with accident/incident investigations and damage appraisals preferred

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Solid knowledge of equipment technical and regulatory compliance.

• Knowledgeable in principles of terminal operations and stevedore operations for container vessels.

• Knowledge of cranes, container yard equipment, chassis repair, refrigeration, Hawaii State Safety Inspection/OSHA, and environmental compliance.

• Ability to implement hardware and software and experience with maintenance and diagnostics software.

• Knowledge of various electrical voltages categories.

• Sound budgeting skills to coordinate multiple equipment maintenance activities.

• Interpersonal skills to work effectively in a team based environment.

• Good leadership and effective management skills.

• Excellent communication and follow-up skills for frequent interactions with both shipboard and shoreside staff.

• Ability to communicate effectively with union workforce and operations staff.

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of welding certifications preferred

• Knowledge of AP, AR and procurement preferred

Working Environment

This role requires work that may involve the following environmental conditions:

• Vessel and terminal environment – includes moving, shifting surfaces, and active production areas including moving vehicles, equipment, and machinery.

• Outdoor/open environments which may involve high/low temperatures, humidity and inclement weather conditions.

• Work schedule may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Travel Requirements

10% – Must be able to travel independently on short notice to neighboring islands and U.S. locations.
