Hafnia, BW Group, and Shell partnered to run a first of its kind innovation program called “Women in Maritime Lab.”

Thanks to the Women in Maritime Lab this year, innovative ideas were gathered from people of all genders on the challenges faced by women in maritime. Teams submitted their ideas online and were shortlisted to participate in a virtual innovation sprint led by Hafnia, BW Group, and Shell. The top ideas were selected by a panel of judges and then received an award and a chance to work with these sponsoring companies to conduct a proof of concept of their ideas.

The winning idea, SeaCode, is an online platform for people in the maritime industry facing difficult situations at work – such as harassment, discrimination and mental health struggles. It enables people to share their stories in order to shine a light on the problems they and other people experience. You can also read other people’s stories and offer them support. Finally, you can access resources to learn more about these challenges and there is a list of organizations to reach out to if you need to speak with someone.

By sharing your stories, you can help to enact change and enable industry leaders to take action against unacceptable workplace behaviors. “As SeaCode, we are here to enlighten the problems of the people in the maritime industry, so we encourage everyone to share all stories from now or from the past through the SeaCode website. SeaCode is always looking for ambassadors for the project and if you would like to get involved and be part of the change, please email [email protected].”

Today on the Women Offshore Podcast, hear from Ayse Asli Basak of Shefarer’s Platform, representing SeaCode, and Richard Holdsworth, Maritime Ventures Lead at Shell Digital Ventures, as they talk about the Women in Maritime Lab and the innovation behind Seacode.
