If you could make one change for gender equality in the maritime industry, what would that be?
Throughout 2019, we have seen a strong focus on the importance of women’s roles in the maritime industry. Events around the world have supported women’s careers in various sectors including, shipping, ports and ocean sciences.Â
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is taking the focus on gender equality to a whole new level for their Day of the Seafarer campaign, an annual event that recognizes seafarers in June.
On June 25th, the Day of the Seafarer, IMO encouraging seafarers, male and female, to show solidarity for gender equality in seafaring. They invite you to think about one thing you would change to improve diversity in seafaring and offer you two ways to do this!
1. Share your thoughts on the Day of Seafarer Wall
IMO has provided a website where you can share your thoughts on what it takes to support gender equality in the maritime industry. Click HERE to share your name, job title, and nationality to contribute to the global impact of the Day of the Seafarer campaign!
2. Post a photo holding a poster and use the hashtag #iamonboard
Let’s flood social media with images of us holding the posters below to spread awareness of the importance of gender equality, as seen by Women Offshore’s founder, Ally Cedeno.
