Let’s talk about the importance of representation and visibility.
At the Women Offshore Conference, LGBTQIA+ members took the stage. The LGBTQIA+ panel discussion was a space for mariners who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, intersex, and asexual and/or ally to network and discuss common issues and challenges with our community. Common issues and challenges included representation and visibility and how to incorporate personal identity into professional or student life.
Women Offshore is a 501(c)(3) supporting a diverse workforce on the water. On this podcast episode, founder Ally Cedeno is joined by Kim Asher, a (trans)woman in the offshore industry, specifically offshore wind. Kim was a speaker on the LGBTQIA+ panel, and on the podcast, she talks about issues offshore and how to have representation and visibility, as well as how to incorporate personal identity into professional life. Kim is very passionate about supporting other people and she talks about how she’s making waves in the industry.
