At Women Offshore, we proudly shine a light on women who are forging impactful careers in the maritime and offshore industries. Today, we’re excited to introduce one of our Ambassadors, Chelsea Denig, whose career journey, from offshore dredging to a leadership role shoreside, exemplifies boldness, resilience, and trailblazing spirit.
Currently serving as an Assistant Vessel Operations Manager, Chelsea is responsible for overseeing marine cargo operations, directing union labor, and working closely with ship crews, lines, and agents to ensure safe and productive container vessel operations.
Her career began offshore in the dredging industry, and through dedication and adaptability, she transitioned into a strategic shoreside role, bringing valuable firsthand experience with her. “Working offshore is an out-of-the-box career path filled with genuine characters and powerful stories. I’ve always loved the sea and the adventure that comes with it.”
Chelsea’s proudest accomplishment? Becoming the first and only woman hired onto the Vessel Operations team at FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL TERMINAL, LLC. She credits her success not just to her own determination, but also to the men in her company who actively support and uplift women in the industry.
Earning credibility in a male-dominated field wasn’t easy, especially among professionals with decades of experience. But Chelsea met the challenge head-on. “I listened, I learned, and I took initiative. That helped me gain the confidence to lead and to mentor others just starting out.”
What keeps her motivated in a demanding work environment? Her team. “Knowing I’m not alone keeps me going. The people I’ve worked with in this industry have been outstanding and a major source of encouragement.”
Chelsea became a Women Offshore Ambassador to amplify her voice, and help others find theirs. “Instead of keeping my experiences to myself, I wanted to speak honestly and inspire other women. I know what it takes to thrive offshore, and I want to connect with others who are on that path too.” To her, being an ambassador means leading with grit and grace: “It’s about showing the ‘Yes, I can’ spirit, especially to women who are told they can’t. The role connects us and pushes us to change that mindset.”
Chelsea hopes to see the industry evolve into a more gender-equal and inclusive workplace. “There’s still work to be done to better support and protect women offshore, but we’re moving in the right direction.” Her advice to young women considering a maritime career? “Be bold. Do what others won’t. Don’t hesitate to set yourself apart.” And the lesson she wishes she learned earlier? “Let go of things more easily. What feels huge in the moment often doesn’t matter in the long run. Keep improving and moving forward.”
When she’s not managing vessel operations, Chelsea prioritizes health and fitness. “Health is wealth. I wouldn’t be able to contribute to this industry if I didn’t take care of myself first.”
Her go-to motto? “It will all work out in the end.” A reminder that persistence and perspective go hand in hand.
We’re honored to have Chelsea Denig as part of the Women Offshore community. Her story is a powerful example of what women can achieve in maritime, and why visibility and advocacy matter.
