When was the last time you asked for something you want in your career?
Because of the challenges women face in speaking up, they tend to NOT ask for what they want and/or need in life. This episode is a reminder to ask for what you want and need.
Perhaps you have internalized messages that you shouldn’t promote your own interests or maybe you found that assertive women who ask for what they want are penalized and labeled “pushy” or worse.
Generally speaking, women tend to wait for what we want and need in life. Once we graduate from school and move on to the corporate world, it’s not enough to expect that you will be recognized and rewarded for working hard and doing a good job. You need to ask, as uncomfortable as it is, as much as it goes against what you have been conditioned and taught by society, you NEED to ask for what you want.
If you need further proof of why asking important and some information on how to ask for what you want when it seems like a difficult task, then this episode is for you. Listen in this episode to Sara Laschever, the co-author of Women Don’t Ask: The High Cost of Avoiding Negotiation–and Positive Strategies for Change. There are a lot of gold nuggets in this interview from Sara on the importance of asking for what you want and how to make it happen.
